TB Testing With QuantiFERON
Many employers, healthcare jobs, nursing and medical programs, and volunteer roles require a TB (tuberculosis) test. We use the QuantiFERON-TB blood test, a type of test called an IGRA.
• One visit: a single blood draw here in the office, with no return trip to have a skin test read.
• BCG vaccine: a past BCG vaccine, common in many countries, doesn’t cause a false positive on this test.
• Results: we let you know when your results are in and complete any form your employer or program needs.

Pre-Employment Physicals
A pre-employment physical confirms you’re fit for the job your employer is hiring you for. The visit usually includes your vital signs, a review of your health history and medications, and a physical exam. Your employer’s form decides what else is needed, such as a TB test or proof of vaccination.
We complete the employer’s paperwork as part of the visit. We don’t do DOT physicals for commercial drivers.

TB Symptoms? Book a Sick Visit, Not a Screening
If you have a cough that has lasted more than three weeks, are coughing up blood, or have fever, night sweats or unexplained weight loss, book a same-day sick visit so a doctor can evaluate you, rather than a routine screening test. For trouble breathing or any medical emergency, call 911.
Insurance
Insurance may cover TB testing when it’s medically needed, but many plans don’t cover tests or physicals required only by an employer. We accept Medicare, Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare and other major plans — see insurance & billing, or call us and we’ll help you check.
TB Test and Work Physical Questions
Is a QuantiFERON blood test better than a TB skin test?
Both screen for TB infection. QuantiFERON is a blood test, so it takes one visit with no return trip to have a skin test read, and a past BCG vaccine doesn’t affect the result. Check that your employer or program accepts a TB blood test.
How much do a pre-employment physical and TB test cost?
Without insurance, the physical and employer forms are $150 total, and the QuantiFERON TB blood test is $100. Employer form completion on its own is $50.
Do you do DOT physicals?
No. DOT physicals for commercial drivers must be done by an FMCSA-certified medical examiner. We do non-DOT pre-employment physicals and employer forms.
What happens if my TB test is positive?
A positive result means you may have been infected with TB bacteria. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re sick or contagious. Your doctor checks for active TB, usually with a chest X-ray and a review of symptoms, and talks with you about treatment if it’s needed.
Do I have to be a patient to get a TB test?
No. Anyone 18 or older can book a QuantiFERON TB test with us, whether or not you’re an existing patient. It’s $100 without insurance.
