Treatment, Not Just a Result

If a test is positive, your doctor explains what it means and starts treatment or arranges specialist care when it’s needed.

What We Test For

We test for all common sexually transmitted infections:
• Chlamydia
• Gonorrhea
• HIV
• Syphilis
• Hepatitis B and hepatitis C
• Herpes (HSV)
• Trichomoniasis

You don’t need to know which tests you need. Your doctor recommends a panel based on your symptoms and history.

How STD Testing Works

1. Book a visit online or call (973) 309-6192. Same-day appointments are often available Monday through Saturday.
2. Talk privately with your doctor about symptoms and possible exposures, so you get the right tests.
3. Give samples here in the office. Depending on the test, that’s a urine sample, a blood draw or a swab.
4. Get your results in about 48 hours, some sooner. We contact you and explain next steps, including treatment if you need it.

When to Get Tested

Consider testing if you have symptoms such as unusual discharge, burning when you urinate, sores, a rash or pelvic pain; after a new partner or a possible exposure; or as part of routine screening, even without symptoms. Many STDs cause no symptoms at all.

Some infections take time to show up on tests after an exposure, so your doctor may recommend testing again later.

Your Privacy

Your visit and your results are confidential medical information. If you’re covered on someone else’s insurance plan, the policyholder may receive an explanation of benefits that lists the visit. If that’s a concern, ask us about your options when you book.

Possible HIV Exposure? Act Within 72 Hours

If you think you were exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours, don’t wait for a routine test. A medication called PEP can lower the chance of infection, but it has to be started within 72 hours. Call us right away at (973) 309-6192, or go to an emergency room if we’re closed. For any medical emergency, call 911.

Cost and Insurance

STD testing is billed as an office visit plus lab tests. Many insurance plans cover STD testing, and some screenings are covered as preventive care. We accept Medicare, Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare and other major plans — see insurance & billing. Paying without insurance? Call us and we’ll go over self-pay options. Need other lab work? See blood work & lab draws.

No. Anyone 18 or older can book STD testing with us, whether or not you’re an existing patient.

How long do STD test results take?

Most results come back in about 48 hours, and some come back sooner. We contact you with your results and talk through next steps.
